I still remember the day I decided to embark on my Couch to Half Marathon journey, October 22, 2022. I barely finished my very first 5 KM Outdoor Run, ending up with a muscle fatigue and catching my breath ending up to 4.17 KM only. It was a moment of pure determination, mixed with a dash of madness. How could someone who barely ran a kilometer without gasping for air possibly complete a half marathon?

The Beginning

My journey began with small, manageable steps. I did not started with a short runs but rather a three times a week 10 thousand steps. Then i between, i slowly transistion to a short run not more that 500 meters distance. It wasn't easy; I struggled to breathe, my legs ached, and I often felt like giving up. I dont have any idea yet about cadence, pace, splits & PR / PB.

Progress and Setbacks

As the weeks went by, I started to notice significant improvements in my endurance. I could run farther without stopping, and my recovery time decreased. However, there were also setbacks. I faced minor injuries, missed workouts, and moments of self-doubt.

Mental Toughness

One of the most significant challenges I faced was mental toughness. There were times when I felt like quitting, when the pain and exhaustion seemed too much to bear. But I kept pushing forward, reminding myself why I started this journey in the first place.

The Final Stretch

As the half marathon drew closer, my training intensified. I increased my mileage, incorporated strength training, and worked on my nutrition. The sense of accomplishment I felt after each workout was overwhelming.

Race Day

The day i decided i want to try to push my self to the limit and run the half marathon finally arrived. I am a bit nervous but ready. As I crossed the starting line, a mix of emotions flooded my mind. The moment i activated the timer in my smart watch and I started running. The next 21.20 KM which took me around 2:17:46 workout time were a blur of sweat, tears, and cheers.

Crossing the Finish Line

As I crossed the finish line, a sense of pride and accomplishment washed over me. I had done it. I had transformed from a couch potato to a half marathon finisher.

Lessons Learned

This journey taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, resilience, and the importance of community. I learned to listen to my body, to fuel it properly, and to trust the process. Next time, i will consider joining Dubai Run 2026 or Burjtoburj  next year and aim to achieve new PR for half marathon. I will also try and push my self to run maybe full marathon next year.

Final Thoughts

If you're considering embarking on your own Couch to Half Marathon journey, I say go for it. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it. Remember to stay committed, listen to your body, and celebrate your progress along the way.
